Seaside Photo Holder

Note: my blog format cuts this off; if you click on the picture, it goes to its DeviantArt page, where you can see the whole thing, and some commentary.

How the hell did you make this? You should post a tutorial.

Next time I make one, I'll take progress pictures. You ever see my "magic wands"? http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5285217

It was like these, but easier because no stone to secure. I just started with the twist at the top - make a tight U with the wire, pinch the end of it, and start loosely curling it around like around paperclip. Then start twisting. The beads and charm were actuallly put on with a separate piece of gold wire after I twisted up the silver, but of course you could put beads and stuff on the body of the thing, too.

I decided on the sun charm first, and for some reason the green beads, and then thought the fish might go nicely with them. I'd had the fish for years and never had a reason to use it. Then I realized the whole thing needed to be seashore themed, so I picked out the aqua beads for the stem based on that.

Then at the bottom, I balled up all the wire real tight, then made a flat spiral, like it could stand on the wire by itself without the Sculpey base. I picked the sand color Sculpey, made the wiggly outline shape and flattened it in a glass pie pan I keep completely for the purpose of baking Sculpey in. Then I lightly pressed the base of the stand onto the "sand". I picked pearly white and blue and twisted and kneaded them together for the "water", letting them stay just a bit unmixed, to give a bit of a swirly effect. Smashed it around the base of the wire on top of it. I used a plastic clay tool that's like a very stubby fork to draw in the zen-garden-like lines. Then I thought it needed some "foam" and sparkle, so I got some clear and clear-and-silver seed beads. I just pressed my finger onto a clump of beads to pick them up, and pushed them into the edges of the "water."

Pop into the oven at 275 for fifteen minutes, hope the fish didn't melt or crack or anything, remove, let cool, pry off the glass because I didn't think to put it on foil first so it'd be easy to remove.. voila!

I actually have a crafster account, I really ought to put stuff I've made there. You know, someday.
